Style of Lodi recently met up with up and coming artists Alexandra
Lang and Brandon Carlson of "Jumping Ship Art Company", the name of
their line of contemporary art and business. View their
portfolio at www.jumpingshipart.com
Alexandra Lang is a 20 year old student and 2008 graduate of Lodi High School.
She currently
attends San Joaquin Delta College and Body Tune Up School of
Massage Therapy and works as a part-time hostess at a
local restaurant. Her interests in
art have been a lifelong passion. We
asked Alexandra what drew her to have such a profound interest in the
arts. She answered, "I guess it's just something in my
blood." "Everyone in my family is creative and has some
type of artistic ability." Upon gathering a bit of
information about Alexandra's family history and upbringing we could see the connection. Her great grandmother, Mabel Myers, was a well
known artist most of her life locally, nationally and internationally in various
mediums. To this day, she still has paintings hanging in galleries world wide.
In an undated manuscript Mabel was quoted as saying, "
The one compelling force in my life has been the field of
art.". She attended college, raised two daughters and began
the serious study of art. She gave countless years of work to an
international sorority, Beta Sigma Phi, for which she received an award for service to youth.
During her lifetime she accumulated numerous awards and gained recognition in
publications such as
The World Who's Who of Woman, Dictionary of International
Biography, and Who's Who of American Woman. She was also a member
of the National League of Penwomen, Stockton and Lodi Art Leagues,
Stockton Fine Arts Gallery and the Society of Western Artists. Her
art is displayed in fine art galleries and private collections in England,
Ireland, Japan, Arabia, Canada, the Aleutian Islands and 11 states
in the USA. To capture the essence of nature she painted on
location in remote areas of the US,
Canada, Mexico and especially in the desert of the great
southwest. Mabel passed away in July of 1993.
