McKinleys Frame Shop

After studying commercial art and interior design in La Crosse, Wisconsin, Julie McKinley, owner of McKinleys Frame Shop, walked into a custom frame shop in 1984 and was intrigued by the designing, color creativity, and the precision of picture framing.  That was the beginning of Julie’s lifelong dream of owning her own custom frame shop.

Taking a few side roads along the way to that dream, Julie served in the U.S. Air Force as a Firefighter and a Medic.  She also, challenged herself in the fitness world by becoming a Personal Fitness Trainer, and competed in bodybuilding.  But, she always went back to her passion, picture framing.  McKinleys Frame Shop opened in 2008 and is successfully growing and reaching new heights in the down-to-earth Lodi community.

Traveling throughout the world, Julie worked in management positions at various framing departments at Air Force Bases, teaching framing classes to military members, retirees, and civilian employees.  Many of the flight jackets and military medal shadowboxes displayed in Air Force Headquarter buildings have been created by Julie.

McKinleys Frame Shop fits everyone’s framing needs, from metal frames to wood frames, regular framing products to conservation and museum quality products.  “I try to accommodate all budgets, at the same time providing the highest quality framing”, says Julie.  “Innovative design is the key in creating truly unique custom framing.”  She is hands on from the beginning design to the final framed product.  “I will take on any framing challenge...as long as it’s not moving...lol”.  She has over 1000 frame options, conservation matting with various fabric textures, wood filets to give the artwork style and individuality, and a variety of UV conservation glass to protect artwork and images from fading.

Julie loves to create fantastic shadowboxes with dimension and character to suit each customer.  Some framing ideas are mirrors, family/school portraits,

wedding photos and invitations, all stitchery’s, paintings on canvas, original paintings on paper, collage matting, degrees and certificates, jerseys and jackets, prints and posters, giclee’s, object shadowboxes, and more.  Other services she offers is commercial framing, in-home picture hanging and design consultation, online art gallery that allows custom sizing, fine art reproductions and giclee’ prints from your original artwork.  The shop has a unique selection of photo frames, original local artists framed artwork, local area wine book “Lodi on the Label” by Debra Ristau, photo cards by Barbara Gillespie, and hand-crafted stained glass wind chimes by Wendy Gage.  All are available for purchase.

The First Friday Art Hop is a monthly event at McKinleys Frame Shop.  Having a different artist show their artwork each month, allows new and seasoned artists the opportunity to gain more recognition, sell their artwork, and bring “the arts” into the Lodi community.  The First Friday of each month is an “open house” of sorts at various locations who take part in the Art Hop.  At McKinleys, the artist is available to share what his/her inspirations are.  The artist’s artwork remains in the frame shop the entire month for continued viewing and sales.  McKinleys also provide appetizers and various beverages, pouring wines from local wineries.

Julie McKinley is a member of the Lodi Chamber of Commerce, Lodi Arts Commission, and the Lodi Community Art Center.  She volunteers with Lodi Support Our Troops, leading various fundraising events, raising money to send Holiday Cheer Boxes to our military troops who are stationed in the Middle East.
